16 Nov How to get a nice logo for your dance business
As a dance professional, promoting a dance studio, organising a workshop or even creating t-shirts and other merchandising, requires you to have some cool visuals. In this article I want to give you a few options and tips on how to make it happen. I have used every single one of these examples and tried them out so you would’t have to.
Do it yourself
At first I used to make everything myself using photoshop. I asked a friend to show me the basics of the program and it got me started. Now, you can also just google tutorials about this. There must be around a gazillion videos out there that will show you how to achieve the look and feel you would like to have. I got to say that this is an option for people who have lots of time on their hands because the learning curve is pretty steep. Photoshop is also not cheap and if you are on a budget, this might not be the best solution. Adobe offers a trial of about 30 days, so you can check out if this is for you. At Raised by the beat, we use creative cloud, it s a monthly subscription that gives you access to all adobe’s creative suite.

Canva
If photoshop is not for you but you really want to do it yourself, you can use canva.com… Canva is an online service that lets you use templates and pre-made designs that you can then tweak yourself. It’s not as powerful as photoshop but it has lots of cool options you can work with. My favourite feature is that they have templates for pretty much everything, from logos, to social media covers to brochures.. so if you need a quick fix, this is a one stop shop but when it comes to logo creation.. you’ll have some options but they will not be unique. I find they’re a bit limited in how .. let s say .. creative they are. You can obviously create something from scratch and play around with the really easy to use interface.
Fiverr
If you are on a serious budget you can try out Fiverr.com
Fiverr is a marktetplace where people offer their services for 5 bucks. Yeah .. only 5bucks. There is an up-sell system in place that allows you to pay a little extra for faster delivery or more options. You can use the search bar to find designer that will deliver a logo or even a video animation but do not expect anything unique. At this price point, it is mass production. But if uniqueness is not important for you and you are really tight on money. This could be the best option.

99 designs
I have use 99designs for years. Almost all the t-shirt designs I have released, came from there. It works like this. When you go on their website, you can choose which kind of project you want to start and pay upfront. Then you type in a detailed brief of how you want your design to look. Then designers will compete against each other to deliver your dream logo or whatever you need. You can see what they have created in your dashboard. You are encouraged to tell the designers what you like and dislike so they can perfect their submission. In the end you’ll choose the design you like and the designer get’s paid. If you don’t like any, you can get your money back. I think it’s pretty cool. They give you a starting price based on the type of design you need but can choose to offer more if you want to attract the best graphic designers on the platform. It s bit more expensive that, let s say fiverr but you’ll have a high quality design for an affordable price

Hire someone
This is what we did with the RBTB logo. We looked for someone that had done some work we liked and contacted her. It’s definitely the most expensive option but we get praised for our logo all the time. We took our time to get it just right. We had to go back and forth on the designs multiple times and had to kill some good alternatives but in the end it’s exactly what we wanted. It also gave us the idea to propose this as a service on the platform. You can contact us and we’ll put you in youch with some really cool graphic designers that will deliver a professional looking logo.
So that’s it for now. But out of curiosity. Where do you get your graphics made? Any service we should know about? The comment section is the perfect spot to tell us and the community. Tnx
